John X. Watson is president of Hallmark Retail and a corporate officer at Hallmark Cards, Inc.

In this role, Watson is responsible for the vision and strategy for Hallmark’s branded network of specialty stores and the development of Hallmark’s Omni channel strategy. He leads development of product offerings, visual presentation, marketing and store environments for nearly 400 corporately owned and more than 2,000 independent Hallmark Gold Crown® stores, as well as a variety of new store concepts.

Watson also is responsible for the sales team serving the specialty network, as well as retail training, retailer relations, services, and information technology strategy for retail and real estate.

Watson joined Hallmark in April 2014 with more than 30 years of experience in retail, wholesale and direct-to-consumer sales as well as consumer products and professional services. He previously was chairman and chief executive officer of specialty golf retailer Edwin Watts Golf. He also served as president and chief executive officer of Sunglass Hut and as executive vice president and chief operating officer at HSN (formerly Home Shopping Network). A former McKinsey & Co consultant, he also held key leadership positions at Reebok International and apparel companies MEXX and Esprit De Corp.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in business administration from Dartmouth College.
